REYNOLDSVILLE, Pa. - The Jefferson County-DuBois Area Vocational-Technical School closed the protective services program on Monday.
The program at Jeff Tech was designed to prepare students for careers in criminal justice, emergency medicine and fire protection.
Executive director Barry Fillman said at this time each year, Jeff Tech considers what the programs are offering, based on student enrollment, occupational projections and the needs of the community.
The protective services program has seen a six-year decline in enrollment to its current enrollment of 12 students.
Fillman said two programs were closed in 2012, lumbering and marketing.
"Current juniors and seniors in the program will be unaffected," Fillman said. "They'll get to complete the program as planned. The six students that would have returned to the program will have the ability to complete one more year in the program or switch in the fall to another career area."
Guidance counselors at the school are currently facilitating informed decision making for each student involved, Fillman said.
Jeff Tech is working towards increasing the scope of the cyber security component of their computer network engineering shop.
Fillman said he doesn't see the protective services program returning anytime soon.
